MANAGEMENT TEAM

Turko Semmes (Customer Service Manager/Founder) graduated from the Architecture Department of Cal Poly State University in 1978 with a degree in Construction Management. Since then he has helped make Semmes & Co. Builders, Inc. the area’s leading homebuilder, specializing in energy efficiency and sustainable building techniques. He’s a co-founder of both the California Straw Building Association and SLO Green Build. He has taught classes and workshops on sustainable building systems to community groups and to students at the elementary, secondary and university level. Turko loves working, living in Toro Creek and watching his trees grow. Traveling and spending time with his family and friends fill out his life.

Paul Rose (Production Supervisor/HR Manager/Owner) is a native of California, Paul grew up here on the Central Coast and has been a carpenter since the 1970′s. His construction and woodworking skills have always had a bent toward energy efficiency. Paul helped found the Sustainable Building Council of San Luis Obispo County in order to promote those practices. When not on a job site or at the office, Paul climbs, surfs, kayaks, and generally enjoys the out-of-doors.

Tom Moore (Production Supervisor/ Head of Production/Owner) has been with Semmes & Co. since 1998 and in the construction business since 1978. In his own words: “In my free time I enjoy golf, some surfing when I can find warm water, and exploring with my grandson”.

 

 

Jessica Steely (Production Coordinator/CFO/Owner) graduated Cal Poly with a degree in Construction Management and a minor in Sustainability. She says the work here is fulfilling because, “incorporating the innovation of tomorrow into ‘dream homes’ of today builds a powerful sense of trust and gratitude between our clients and ourselves, while making a healthier and more efficient environment. It’s really something to be proud of.” As a new owner, Jessica continues to thrive and grow.

Emily Baranek (Preconstruction Manager) has been with Semmes & Co. since 2005 but has had an interest in architecture and construction since elementary school. As a fourth-generation Atascadero native, Emily is also passionate about our local community and is “very proud of all that Semmes & Co. is doing for San Luis Obispo County and the sustainability community.” She most enjoys working on her home and traveling with her family.

 

PRODUCTION TEAM

Matt Herndon has worked for Semmes & Co. for over a decade. His experience and knowledge in the field has been an extreme asset to the company. When he’s not giving his all for Semmes & Co., he enjoys his kids’ laughs and wife’s smile. “Go Semmes!”

 

Frank Perea is a resident of Los Osos and has been with the Semmes & Co. family since February of 2002. He came to us with a degree in Wildlife Management and a lot of experience in construction. Frank’s interest in alternative construction and his eye for detail have been great assets to us and to our clients. 

 

Chris Baranek grew up in Atascadero, and after living for a short time in Santa Barbara and in Santa Cruz, Chris returned to his home town. He has been in construction for over 12 years and says he just generally enjoys building things, with concrete, wood, or metal. He loves working on his own home, is an avid disc golfer, and is an accomplished home brewer.  Chris says he also just loves life, “especially his wife and new baby girl.”

Josh Herndon is also a long time Central Coast resident, emerging as a skillful carpenter with a good eye for detail and exceptional follow-through. This humble man is willing and capable of doing anything, and does it with great attitude. You can always find a smile on his face. Josh enjoys snowboarding and hanging out with his wonderful family. We are honored to have his family join ours.

 

Nick Aronsen grew up in Atascadero and has been in construction for as long as he can remember. “Building houses is my passion and concrete is my favorite part of the process.”   When he is not at work, Nick enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, hunting and fishing.

 

 Steven Bishop has been carpenter since the age of 16, starting as a laborer during the summers in High School. When not building he loves to hunt, fish and snowboard. He generally loves everything that has to do with the outdoors. In his own words: “Green building helps keep the outdoors there for me to enjoy.”
